MaxLinear MXL17 Sierra Radio SoC Modules

MaxLinear MXL17 Sierra Radio System-on-Chip (SoC) integrates five sub-systems into a single chip and is optimized for 4G/5G Open Radio Access Network (RAN) radio units (RUs). This single-chip platform flexibly supports major RU applications, including traditional macro, massive multiple-input and multiple-output (MIMO), and small cell. The module provides a complete software-programmable radio signal processing engine for Open RUs (O-RUs) by integrating an RF transceiver, a digital front end (DFE), a low-PHY baseband processor, an Arm® Cortex®-A53 quad-core CPU, and an O-RAN Alliance split 7.2x fronthaul interface. This design enables radio vendors to rapidly and cost-effectively develop O-RUs with higher energy efficiency, reduced size and weight, and maximum system reuse across all RU applications. The MXL17 Sierra SoC from MaxLinear is designed as an ideal radio platform building block to help speed the development of new O-RUs.
