To help protect end-users, Littelfuse works closely with many LED driver IC suppliers, to ensure their evaluation boards and reference designs comply with safety and surge immunity requirements. Electrical Vehicle AC Chargers

Littelfuse provides a wide range of products that are suitable for Electric Vehicle AC Chargers. Although simpler in nature compared to DC chargers, AC charging stations safely deliver AC power from the electrical grid into the vehicle. Due to space and weight constraints in the vehicle, on-board chargers and AC charging stations are typically limited to lower amounts of power (22kW or less), which means charging time is slow – taking several hours. These systems also rely on a vehicle’s on-board charger to enable the conversion of AC power from the grid into DC power to charge the vehicle’s battery. It’s critical that proper measures are taken to safeguard both the charger and vehicle.

AC/DC Power Supply

UltraMOV 20mm Varistors

Littelfuse UltraMOV 20mm Varistors meet high peak surge current rating requirements with an operating voltage range compatible with common AC line voltages (130VAC to 625VAC). These metal oxide varistors are available in various lead forms and are rated for ambient temperatures up to +85°C with no derating. The lead-free, 20mm varistors can operate at temperatures up to +125°C and are characterized for maximum standby current (leakage). These features make the Littelfuse 20mm UltraMOV varistor series ideal for AC line voltage applications, LED lighting applications, and more.

Varistors

Littelfuse Varistors are protective devices that offer several important features, such as overvoltage protection, peak current ratings from 20A to 70,000A, and peak energy ratings from 0.01J to 10,000J. The mounting options serve a wide range of applications. Littelfuse Varistors also offer many form factor and protection ranges, rugged cost-effective protection, thermal protection options, and RoHS compliance.

Electrical Vehicle DC Fast Chargers

DC charging stations are designed to convert the electrical grid’s AC power into DC power that can then be fed directly into a vehicle’s battery system for fast charging – in 30 minutes or less. Because the conversion from AC to DC power is being done in the charging station, these units can provide higher levels of power (50kW to 350kW and beyond) to the vehicle compared to AC charging stations. Working with tens to hundreds of kilowatts of power, efficient conversion, reliability of the system, and user safety are critical.

Solutions for Infrared Motion Detectors

Littelfuse offers protect, control, and sensing solutions to ensure robust, reliable designs of infrared motion detectors that will result in fewer field failures and a more cost-effective and profitable product. Littelfuse LV UltraMOV™ Varistors offer up to a 10kA current rating, an 11VAC to 95VAC voltage range, and a 14VDC to 125VDC range. These devices are available in packages ranging from 5mm to 23mm. UltraMOV varistors are ideal for applications requiring high peak surge current ratings and high energy absorption capability. These varistors are intended for products that require voltage clamping of high transient surge currents from sources such as lightning, inductive load switching, or capacitor bank switching.
