STMicroelectronics BlueNRG-2 BLE Wireless System-on-Chip
STMicroelectronics BlueNRG-2 BLUETOOTH® Low Energy Wireless System-on-Chip offers the same RF performance of the BlueNRG radio, but improves sleep mode current consumption for longer application battery lifetime. The BlueNRG-2 extends the features of the award-winning BlueNRG network processor, enabling the usage of the embedded Arm® Cortex® M0 for running the user application code. The SoC includes 256KB of programming Flash memory, 24KB of static RAM memory with retention (two 12KB banks) and SPI, UART, I2C standard communication interface peripherals. The BlueNRG-2 also features multifunction timers, watchdog, RTC, and DMA controller. The chip has an integrated high-efficiency DC/DC converter for ultra-low power characteristics.
Bluetooth mesh networking is an emerging technology designed to ensure network connectivity over large areas using the Bluetooth Low Energy protocol, going beyond the simple one-to-one and one-to-many connections. ST's Mesh SDK (STSW-BNRG-Mesh) simplifies Bluetooth Low Energy adoption, reduces development costs, and accelerates time to market. It offers easy-to-use networking APIs for developers based on a certified Mesh Profile Library and Bluetooth LE stack. Mobile apps for Android and iOS are available.
The ST BlueNRG-1 devices also support MESH Networking.
The Bluetooth 5.0 qualification ensures interoperability with the latest mobiles and tablets as well as backward compatibility with older products. The BlueNRG-2 comes with a dedicated evaluation kit (STEVAL-IDB008V1), new software development kit (SDK), and a BlueNRG Navigator graphical user interface (GUI).
