Vishay FEV Battery Management Solutions

Vishay Full Electric Vehicle (FEV) Battery Management Solutions include battery monitors and battery balancing units. No two cells are identical in multi-battery packs as they vary in cell capacity, self-discharge, impedance, temperature characteristics, and cell aging. These differences typically increase and damage batteries. Two battery balancing methods are used: passive and active balancing. The discharge current creates power dissipation in the balancing resistor for passive balancing. The dissipated energy is a loss of energy and reduces the battery's capacity. The generated heat will warm up the battery. The battery's charge is transferred from cells to neighbor cells for active balancing, using low ESR MOSFETs as power switches to reduce energy loss resulting in improved battery capacity. For the application, Vishay offers a broad portfolio of solutions, such as MOSFETs, diodes, shunt resistors, power inductors, and temperature sensor NTC components.
